Back in 2015, during No Shave November, I (Cory) decided to let my razor hibernate and embrace my face’s wild side. Little did I know, along with the sprouting of unruly hairs, a relentless beard itch would soon come knocking. It was me versus my facial foliage, and I was determined to win. I had always dreamed of becoming a bearded mountain man (well, not really, but that sounds cool, right?), but I wasn’t about to spend my days clawing at my face.
Determined to find a solution, I searched the internet for a DIY beard oil recipe. I found one that seemed promising, saved it, and decided to give it a try. After work, I drove downtown to my local health food store to grab the ingredients, then came home and turned my apartment kitchen table into a makeshift laboratory.
At the time, I was working at Honda, making $13 an hour. Each night after work, I’d roll up my sleeves and mix small batches of oil by hand, testing, tweaking, and learning as I went. While my days were spent checking transmission parts, my mind was already at home, thinking about the next blend I’d create.
After countless trials and adjustments, I finally crafted a formula that not only softened my beard but also brought much-needed relief from the constant itch. It was a breakthrough moment, and I knew I had stumbled upon something special. From these humble beginnings, a forest of ideas began to grow. I dove into the world of scent profiles, crafting aromas that reminded me of everything I loved: the crispness of a mountain stream, the freshness of the woods, and that first sip of coffee in the morning.
When I shared my creations with friends and coworkers, they were impressed. After testing out some samples, they all encouraged me to start selling them. With this newfound success, I realized I was onto something extraordinary. I even earned the ultimate seal of approval from my wife, Hannah (now that’s an accomplishment!).
I began visiting local barbershops, health food stores, and gift shops, sharing my beard oil with anyone who would listen. To my excitement, several local stores started carrying my products. As demand grew and sales picked up, we took a leap of faith and launched our own website.
In 2019, I made another leap and quit my job at Honda to pursue Weatherbeard full time. What started as a kitchen table experiment had grown into a business that allowed us to carve our own path and share our passion and talents with the world.
Fast forward to today, and Weatherbeard is no longer just a kitchen table experiment. It has grown into a full-time business with a small warehouse in Tennessee, offering a wide range of men’s grooming essentials.
Whether you’re gearing up for your next mountain adventure or simply want to bring a little wilderness to your daily grooming routine, Weatherbeard is here to guide you. Grab your beard comb, lace up your boots, and get ready to conquer mountains, tame wild manes, and experience the adventure of exceptional grooming.
